BEWARE OF HERESY

How important are the words that we speak? Very, but with warning. Many Christians today are pacrticing a new age principle of positive confession. This practice is ant- biblical. Positive confession has its roots in the law of attraction, which says, if you speak it enough, what you speak, God will make happen. It opposes the  soverignty and providence of God. It supposes that your words have some magical power to create a new reality. Many Chrisitans have adopted this anti biblical practice in order to get what they want; or have things their way. Others feel more powerful to think that they can use words to bring change into their lives. The belief that we have the same power as God to speak things into existence is a heretical belief and all heresy must be rejected.  I once attended a church that believed in this way. We were told to command "Money Cometh". The belief was that if we command money to come, God will make money come. Well, that money never came and here i am years later still paying off school loans as God faithfully provides.

Even so, speaking the word of God does have its place in scripture. Because the Holy Spirit indwells us and we commune with him, we speak out of our faith in God.  In this way our faith finds its voice. Therefore when you speak out of your faith in God, God sees your faith and answers you. God honors our faith. Our words are meaningful to God, but not powerful to Him. One example is when Jesus cursed the fig tree. The disciples were amazed at how the tree withered. The message is that anyone who does not trust in Jesus withers. Afterward Jesus told his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him." Many have mistakenly put the emphasis on, whoever says to this mountain, when the true emphasis should be placed on, (but believes in his heart). It is the one who believes in his heart; his trust in God finds its voice and God honors them, and brings their petition to pass.

Believers speak the word of God in many ways. We confess our sins. John 1:9
We make prayers to God, Matt. 6:9  We proclaim the word of God to others, we teach, preach, prophesy and praise. Eph. 4:11. Yet our words must always be our faith finding its voice. So, we  hear to believe and we speak because we believe. Yet we must guard against all new age teaching and principles. The enemy is so cunnng that he can make something sound right that is an offense to God and denies God as being the only true source of all power.

With that being said I would be remissed not to mention that negative words do not negate the blessings and promises of God. Not trusting God is the only thing that displeases God. David, and even the Apostle Paul spoke words out of their suffering. Even Jesus expressed his sorrow to his disciples.  However their words simply stated their present condition. It was not complaint but accompanied by their hope in God.  The idea that Christians should not express their discomfort or suffering or problems to God or to other christians is again, anti biblical and puts undue oppression on christians. We are free in Jesus name, free to let our faith have a voice, free to vocalize our suffering without complaint, and free to give all of the praise to God when our deliverance comes. Think about this, our tears many times express our suffering, so should christians never cry either? Well lets let the bible answer that question; "When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. Psalm 34:14 .

Consequently, the tongue has the power of life and death. Pro, 4:23 The tongue has the power to do alot of good or alot of evil. Words of life are spoken when we watch our doctrine and speak according to truth. Jesus said, "By thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned", Matthew 12:37; Words of life are spoken when we pray to God in faith; when we encourage one another in the faith; when we express the hope that we have in Christ; Words of death are spoken when we make false claims, false accusations, false prophecies, stir up strife, quarrell, gossip or make wrong judgements of others. Words have been the death of many marriages, relationships, churches and even nations. Whereas the words of life are the truth and have awakened many hearts, seen answers to prayers, given life to those who were dead in their trespasses and sins and healing to the sick. When faith finds its voice, the tongue gives life.
